Popular Shopify apps mostly cost between $10 and $30 a month on their lowest paid plan, with free plans for small stores and prices that climb with orders, contacts or revenue. Our seven app starter stack comes to $105 a month, about £78, and a growth stack at a few thousand orders a month comes to about $396, about £293. The tables below give the free plan, the lowest paid plan and its limit, and what the price scales by, for 36 apps across email, reviews, loyalty, subscriptions, page building, upsell, SEO, search, support, shipping and analytics, linked to the listings they came from.
App costs are the part of a Shopify budget that nobody prices before launch and everybody notices six months later. We read 55 listings on 15 October 2026; four had been delisted or publish no price, and the index covers the 36 most useful of the rest, including Shopify's own free apps. Prices change, so click through before you install.

Take a new store with a few hundred orders a month that wants email, reviews, subscriptions, a landing page builder, a loyalty scheme, a help desk and order tracking, and put each on its lowest paid plan.
That is $105 a month, or about £78, which is £933 a year at $1.35 to the pound. Most of those apps are free below their first limit, so a store at launch can run the same stack for the price of Klaviyo alone, and a store that leans on Shopify's own Email, Inbox and Flow can run it for nothing. The money starts to matter at scale.
A growth stack at a few thousand orders a month looks different: Loox Convert $49.99, Smile.io Standard $79, Recharge Starter $99 plus its transaction fee, Gorgias Basic $60, Lifetimely $49 and CWILL Professional $59 come to $395.99 before email, which is about £293 a month. Add Klaviyo at a 10,000 contact list and the stack passes £400. Our store cost guide puts that alongside the plan fee, theme and build.
| Pricing basis | Apps that use it | What to watch |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly orders | Loox, Okendo, Smile.io, Rivo, LoyaltyLion, ReConvert, Lifetimely, tracking apps | A Black Friday month can push you into the next tier for the whole month |
| Contacts or messages | Klaviyo, Omnisend, Mailchimp, Postscript, Appikon | Clean suppressed and unengaged profiles before the count is taken |
| Subscribers or subscription revenue | Recharge, Appstle, Seal, Skio | Percentage fees grow with revenue; flat fees do not |
| Share of sales | Recharge, Skio, Bold Upsell, Vitals | Compare the percentage with a flat plan at your real revenue |
| Pages, products, languages or sales tiers | PageFly, Searchanise, Weglot, Boost AI Search | Usually cheap to stay below the limit |
| Per agent | Zendesk | Costs rise with headcount, not sales |
App stacks grow by accretion: apps installed for a campaign two years ago, apps doing a job the theme or Shopify now does for free, and apps that have crept up a tier as orders grew. The fix is a list like this one, read against the Shopify bill once a quarter.
Where the money should go is email. Across 198 client stores, email is a median 30% of revenue, which makes the Klaviyo or Omnisend line the one app fee that earns its keep many times over; three of our current clients run Omnisend because it is more cost effective for them. We are a Klaviyo partner. Everything else on the list should be installed when there is a measured reason for it and removed when there is not. If you would like us to review your stack, our free SEO audit is the place to start, and our pricing is published.
How much do Shopify apps cost per month?
Most popular apps have a free plan and a lowest paid plan between $10 and $30 a month, with the price rising by orders, contacts, reviews or revenue. A typical starter stack of seven apps (email, reviews, subscriptions, a page builder, loyalty, help desk and order tracking) comes to about $105 a month on the lowest paid plans, which is about £78 at $1.35 to the pound.
Are Shopify apps billed in pounds or dollars?
Every App Store listing we read on 15 October 2026 carried the line "All charges are billed in USD", and none showed a price in pounds, so a UK store pays in dollars through its Shopify bill and the pound figure moves with the exchange rate. Some developers, including Klaviyo, Recharge, Omnisend and Zendesk, may also bill separately outside the Shopify invoice.
Which Shopify apps are free?
Shopify's own Email, Inbox and Flow apps are free, apart from Shopify Email's charge of $1 per 1,000 emails beyond 10,000 a month. Judge.me has a free plan with unlimited reviews, Klaviyo and Omnisend are free up to 250 contacts, Seal Subscriptions is free up to 50 subscriptions, Appstle is free up to $500 a month of subscription revenue, and Smile.io and Rivo are free up to 200 orders a month.
Which apps charge a percentage of sales?
Recharge charges 1.49% plus 19 cents a transaction on its Starter plan and 1.34% plus 19 cents on Plus; Skio charges 1% plus 20 cents; Bold Upsell takes 3.5% or 2.5% of upsell revenue; Vitals adds usage fees above about $1,000 a month of attributed sales; and Boost AI Search prices its plans by monthly sales. Appstle and Seal advertise no transaction fees.
What makes app costs rise as a store grows?
Orders and contacts. Loyalty, reviews, upsell, tracking and profit analytics apps price by monthly orders; email and SMS apps price by contacts or messages; subscription apps by subscribers or subscription revenue; search apps by products or sales. A stack that costs $105 a month at launch can grow to a comparable one past $400 a month at a few thousand orders, so check the next tier before you install.
Do I need to pay VAT on Shopify apps in the UK?
Shopify's billing help explains how app charges appear on the Shopify invoice. Whether VAT is added depends on your account's tax status and where the developer bills from, so check your invoice rather than assume, and give Shopify your VAT number if you are registered.
How often do app prices change?
Often. Four of the apps on our original list of 55 had been delisted or publish no price when we checked, and several developers show a different price on their own website from the App Store listing. Treat this index as the position on 15 October 2026 and check the listing before you commit.
