Checked 19 September 2026. Most TikTok Shop statistics come from TikTok itself, which is stated clearly throughout, with independent measurement used wherever it exists.
TikTok Shop is a genuine UK sales channel with a real audience: Ofcom puts TikTok at 56% of UK online adults and about 10.4 million daily. TikTok reports rapid growth in UK sales, sellers and live shopping, though almost all of those figures are percentages without starting points. The commercial reality is that the standard 9% platform commission is the smallest part of the cost, because creator commission, discounts, advertising, fulfilment and returns all sit on top. It suits visually demonstrable products with real margin and a brand willing to make content continuously, and it is a marketplace rather than a replacement for your own store.
TikTok Shop statistics are unusually hard to judge, because the platform is both the subject and the source. That does not make the numbers worthless, but it does mean an article about them should say where each one comes from. This one separates TikTok’s own reporting from independent measurement, then spends most of its length on the part merchants actually need: what selling there costs, how returns work and who owns the customer.
Almost every TikTok Shop statistic in circulation originates with TikTok, usually as a year on year percentage with no absolute figure attached. A 180% rise in UK revenue is impressive or unremarkable depending entirely on where it started, and TikTok does not say.
We have used TikTok’s figures where they are the only source, labelled as such, and Ofcom’s independent measurement wherever it covers the same ground. We have also included the seller documentation, which is the most useful material of all, because fees, returns and data rules are contractual rather than promotional.
TikTok said it was the UK’s fastest growing online retailer in 2024, citing NielsenIQ data, and reported a 131% year on year increase in UK shoppers in March 2025 alongside a 180% rise in UK revenue at the end of the previous year (TikTok). It also said more than 6,000 live shopping sessions were hosted in the UK every day.
Its Black Friday reporting is more specific. TikTok said UK TikTok Shop sales rose 45% year on year on Black Friday 2025 and 50% across its full 21 November to 1 December period, with 27 products sold every second on the day, a 28% increase in unique shoppers, 85% more sellers generating sales, 68% growth in live shopping sales and 1.6 million products available (TikTok). More than 200,000 UK small businesses were selling on the platform, and established brands taking part rose 36%. Our Black Friday statistics article gives the wider UK context those figures sit inside.
Ofcom measured TikTok reaching 56% of UK online adults in May 2025, roughly 27.3 million adult visitors, up 14% year on year, with an average daily audience of about 10.4 million, itself up around 37% (Ofcom). Visitors spent an average of about 28 minutes a day on the service, rising to 49 minutes among 18 to 34 year olds.
The age split is the finding most merchants get wrong. Only 39% of UK adult visitors are 18 to 34, while 37% are 35 to 54 and a quarter are 55 or over. If your assumption is that TikTok reaches teenagers and nobody else, the audience data says otherwise, though time spent still skews heavily young.
Beauty leads by a distance. TikTok reported 60% year on year growth in the UK beauty category during 2025 and described TikTok Shop as the UK’s fourth largest beauty retailer on NielsenIQ 2024 data, with K beauty searches up 125% and K beauty basket values nearly 35% above the skincare average (TikTok). Beauty focused live shopping sessions rose 90%, and active creators on TikTok Shop UK grew more than 72%. Our beauty guide covers the category rules that apply alongside this.
Food, drink and supplements follow the content. TikTok reported 820 million views on high protein content, 377 million on gut health and 33 million on fibre, with STRAAME’s Dubai chocolate passing 100,000 units (TikTok, TikTok). Note the restriction though: pre packaged, chilled, fresh and frozen food and beverages are invite only on TikTok Shop UK, and health, wellness and beauty supplements sit under restricted product requirements (TikTok), which our snacks and drinks and health and fitness guides cover from the compliance side.
Collectibles and demonstrable products spike. TikTok reported 1.1 billion views of Labubu content and POP MART orders up 819% between March and May 2025, alongside a 276% rise in inflatable pool orders during the heatwave, 640% on cooling towels, 1,800% on a cordless blender and 5,800% on a steam mop. Those are single product surges rather than category trends, and they share one trait: the product demonstrates itself in a few seconds.
The standard UK platform commission is 9%, which TikTok says is inclusive of applicable taxes including VAT, calculated using net sales, customer paid shipping, relevant platform discounts and refunds (TikTok). That is the headline, and it is the smallest part of the picture.
Creator commission is separate. Sellers make products available through the affiliate programme, creators promote them through videos and live content, and qualifying sales earn the creator a commission at a rate that varies by product (TikTok). Settlements can also include campaign related fees and shipping charges (TikTok). So a creator driven sale carries platform commission and creator commission, before any paid promotion.
That is why we would never judge this channel on gross merchandise value. Start at selling price, then deduct product cost, platform commission, creator commission, discounts, advertising, fulfilment and expected returns. What remains is the number that tells you whether TikTok Shop works for you, and our conversion rate guide makes the same argument about revenue metrics generally.
TikTok Shop is a marketplace, so returns run on its rules rather than yours. UK buyers can normally raise a return within 30 calendar days of delivery, and sellers can configure windows of 30, 45 or 90 days. Sellers must approve or reject a request within two business days, and make a refund decision within four business days of receiving the product, or TikTok may approve automatically (TikTok).
Return shipping liability depends on fault. For seller fault returns, including quality issues and packaging damage, the seller pays. For qualifying non seller fault returns, TikTok and the seller share the cost under its current UK co funding model (TikTok). This matters most in categories with naturally high return rates. A fashion product can be excellent for content and difficult operationally if sizing is inconsistent, customers order several variants and margins are thin.
The answer is more precise than saying TikTok owns the customer. Legally, TikTok operates TikTok Shop as a third party marketplace and does not itself sell your products, with the contract between customer and seller. Operationally, TikTok mediates most of the relationship.
On data, TikTok’s UK seller terms allow customer data to be processed for fulfilment, returns, refunds, cancellations, enquiries and complaints. Marketing use is limited to customers who have consented, unsolicited direct marketing is prohibited, and where TikTok shares an email address for consented marketing the seller must comply with direct marketing law and provide an opt out. Shopify says TikTok Shop orders can include the TikTok order ID, payment amount, estimated tax and customer details (Shopify), but receiving those details is not the same as permission to add everybody to your database, which our email marketing guide covers.
The practical consequence is that TikTok Shop is a marketplace channel rather than a replacement for your own store, and the comparison is closer to our Amazon against Shopify article than to a new traffic source.
The Shopify sales channel syncs catalogue, inventory, fulfilment and orders, and supports UK stores. Shopify requires a verifiable location address, an online store, a TikTok for Business account, which can be created during onboarding, and a visible return policy page, with synced products needing to comply with TikTok’s regional product policies (Shopify). Selling happens through live shopping, shoppable in feed videos and a product showcase on your profile (Shopify).
When somebody orders, TikTok checks your Shopify inventory, creates the order in Shopify admin if stock is available and does not create it if stock is unavailable. Orders appear on the Shopify orders page and can be fulfilled there. The operational catch is at the other end: refunds, returns and cancellations must all be handled in TikTok Seller Center, so your team works in two systems whatever the integration does.
We would test it as a channel rather than a strategy. Pick a small number of products that demonstrate well and carry enough margin to survive the deduction stack, model the full cost before launching, and set a review point with a defined number that decides whether to continue. Run it for long enough to include returns, because a 90 day window means early results flatter the channel. Treat creator relationships as the main variable rather than the listing itself. And measure contribution rather than gross merchandise value, which our mobile commerce article also argues in a different context.
TikTok Shop is the channel we get asked about most and recommend most conditionally. The audience is real, Ofcom confirms that, and the growth is plainly happening. What gets lost is that it is a marketplace with marketplace economics: a commission, a creator cost, a returns regime you do not control and customer data you cannot freely use.
So the question is not whether TikTok Shop works. It works for some products extremely well. The question is whether it works for your margin, your fulfilment and your appetite for producing content every week. If the answer to all three is yes, it is one of the most interesting channels available to a UK merchant right now. If any is no, the honest advice is to spend the same effort on the store you already own.

What sells best on TikTok Shop UK?
Beauty leads, with TikTok reporting 60% year on year growth in the UK beauty category and describing itself as the UK's fourth largest beauty retailer on 2024 data. Demonstrable home products, snacks and collectibles also perform well.
TikTok Shop statistics need reading with the source attached, because the platform supplies most of them and publishes growth without starting points. What holds up independently is the audience: more than half of UK online adults, around 10.4 million a day, and older than most merchants assume. What matters commercially is everything underneath the 9%. Model the full cost, understand the returns rules, accept that the customer relationship is mediated, and then decide whether your products are the kind that sell themselves in fifteen seconds.
