Live shopping in the UK is growing quickly, almost entirely on TikTok, where sellers pin products from TikTok Shop to a live stream and viewers buy inside the app. Instagram and Facebook have dropped the format, YouTube supports product tags on live streams with checkout on your store, and apps such as Channelize and Bambuser let you stream on your own Shopify store. For most brands the sensible start is a single TikTok LIVE or on site stream around a launch or offer, with a clear plan for the replay and the follow up emails, judged on the new customers it brings.
Live shopping has arrived in the UK in a form built mostly around TikTok. This guide explains what it is, where it actually works in the UK today, and how a Shopify brand can test it without a studio or a presenter.
Shopify's guide to live shopping describes it as a livestream based marketing strategy in which a host presents products and viewers can buy them in real time. It borrows from television shopping channels, which is why QVC UK took to it so easily, and adds the parts television never had: live comments, questions answered on the spot, and a buy button next to the product being shown.
A stream usually has three parts: a build up before it starts, the live session itself, and the replay and follow up afterwards. Brands that only plan the middle part leave most of the value behind.
The clearest UK figures come from TikTok. Its UK newsroom said in December 2025 that 6,000 LIVE shopping sessions are hosted in the UK every day, that daily sessions had risen 72% over the year, that LIVE shopping sales on the platform rose 68% over the Black Friday period, and that QVC UK brought its 30 years of live shopping experience to TikTok Shop. These are TikTok's own numbers, so treat them as a measure of activity on one platform rather than of the whole market.
Consumer interest is older but useful. A Capterra survey of 1,013 UK adults in April 2023 found that 25% had taken part in a live shopping event, 51% had not but were interested, and 76% of those who had were satisfied with the experience; social media was the most used channel, well ahead of brands' own apps. Our guide to social commerce in the UK puts these figures in the wider picture.

TikTok LIVE is the only mainstream UK option where the whole purchase happens inside the stream. A seller or creator goes live, pins products from the TikTok Shop catalogue, and viewers tap to buy without leaving the app. The strengths are reach and impulse: TikTok puts streams in front of people who have never heard of the brand, and the offer is a tap away. The costs are TikTok Shop's fees on each order and a customer record that stays largely with TikTok. Our guide to selling on TikTok Shop UK covers the shop setup that has to come first.
Creators matter more than production values. One of our coffee clients made £2,375 in TikTok Shop sales in its first 6 weeks with 4 creators posting affiliate videos; the campaign's own ROAS was negative, but the number of first time customers and their lifetime value made it profitable. Live streams work the same way: a creator who already sells your product on video is the natural host.
If you would rather keep checkout and customer data, apps can host the stream on your store. Shopify's guide names Bambuser, Now Live and Channelize among others; Channelize's Shopify app starts from $97 a month and hosts a shoppable stream on your store. The trade off is audience: your own store has no feed to put the stream in front of strangers, so these streams suit brands with an engaged email and social following, and work well for launches to existing customers.
A simple route is to run the stream on your store and promote it through TikTok, Instagram and email in the days before, so the platforms bring the audience and you keep the sale.
A creator paid to host or appear is making an advert, so the ASA and CMA influencer guide applies: the stream must be clearly labelled as an advert, and the brand shares responsibility for what is said. Claims made live must be ones you can substantiate, which is harder than in a scripted video, so brief the host on what not to say. Orders are distance sales with the usual 14 day cancellation right, and TikTok Shop's own seller rules on shipping and customer service apply to orders placed in the app.
We are a TikTok partner, and we run TikTok ads, TikTok Shop and creator programmes for Shopify brands. Live shopping in the UK is still mostly a TikTok story, and the brands we see doing well treat a stream as a creator video with a clock on it: the same product in use, the same honest host, plus an offer that ends. The ones that struggle expect a studio broadcast to sell on its own.
We judge the format the way we judge every channel, on new customers and lifetime value rather than the revenue in the hour, and we work to a floor of at least 2x ROAS across the accounts we manage. We are a Shopify Select partner with Verified Skills across development and marketing, and a Meta, Klaviyo and Awin partner, so the stream, the ads and the follow up emails can be planned together. Our pricing is published, and retainer clients are billed one month in arrears with no long contracts. For a free review of your social selling, visit our social media marketing agency page.
What is live shopping?
Live shopping, or live commerce, is a live video stream in which a host presents products and viewers can buy them while watching, usually through products pinned to the stream. Shopify describes it as a livestream based marketing strategy in which a host presents products. It combines demonstration, questions and answers and time limited offers in one session.
Which platforms offer live shopping in the UK?
TikTok is the main one: TikTok LIVE lets UK sellers pin TikTok Shop products to a stream, with checkout inside the app. YouTube lets channels show products on live streams, with UK viewers sent to your store to buy. Instagram and Facebook no longer offer live shopping, and dedicated tools such as Bambuser and Channelize can host a stream on your own Shopify store.
Does Instagram still have live shopping?
No. Instagram's business blog states that Live Shopping is no longer available as of 16 March 2023. You can still go live on Instagram and talk about products, but you cannot tag them for purchase in the stream.
How popular is live shopping in the UK?
TikTok said in December 2025 that 6,000 LIVE shopping sessions are hosted in the UK every day, up 72% on the year before, and that LIVE shopping sales on the platform rose 68% over the Black Friday period. A Capterra survey of 1,013 UK adults in April 2023 found 25% had taken part in a live shopping event and a further 51% were interested.
What sells best on live shopping?
Products that demonstrate well and benefit from a presenter: beauty and cosmetics, fashion, collectables, food and drink, gadgets and anything with a before and after. Launches, bundles and limited time offers give viewers a reason to buy during the stream rather than later.
How long should a live shopping stream be?
Long enough for viewers to arrive and for you to show every featured product more than once. A first stream of 30 to 60 minutes with four to six products is a sensible test, and you can run longer once you know viewers stay.
Do the advertising rules apply to live shopping?
Yes. If a creator hosts or appears in a stream for payment or free products, the ASA and CMA influencer guide applies and the stream must be clearly labelled as an advert. Product claims made live must be ones you can substantiate, and social orders carry the normal 14 day cancellation right.
Live shopping in the UK has found its home on TikTok, and for the right products it is a fast way to win new customers. It is not a separate skill from the rest of social selling: good products, an honest presenter and a reason to buy now.
