Nobody knows what a Shopify agency costs until they have asked three of them. So we looked at what UK agencies say in public. This is a survey of what they publish, which is all a merchant can see before the first call.

How We Did It

1. We built a list of 79 UK agencies and studios from Shopify agency search results, the Shopify Partner Directory and the Clutch and DesignRush listings, including the large Plus tier agencies and the small studios that compete with them.
2. We read each site's pricing, packages, support and service pages on 15 October 2026. Seven sites could not be reached on the day and are counted as not publishing.
3. We recorded only figures shown on the agency's own pages, with the exact wording, whether the price is fixed or "from", and whether VAT is mentioned. Directory profiles and blog estimates are listed separately.
4. We included ourselves, from our own packages page, so the survey is not a league table with the author left out.

The Headline Numbers

Build prices cluster in two bands: £799 to £2,500 for theme based stores from solo studios and productised packages, and £3,495 to £4,000 for custom design from small agencies. Retainers cluster at £100 to £400 for a few hours of support and at £495 to £750 for 8 to 16 hours or a named account manager.

Lowest published figure for a Shopify store build, with the custom or larger figure where the same page gives one. "From" means the page says from, starting at or similar.

Hourly Rates and Migrations

Five agencies publish an hourly rate: Harrison Mann at £85, shopifywebdeveloper.co.uk at £45 to £85 with a 10 hour minimum, Sunset Design at £100 and Xigen at £75 per half hour for a one off fix; Liquify quotes $180. We sell hours in blocks instead: a Welcome Package of 4 hours for £400 and a 5 Hour Block for £450, plus VAT.

Five publish a migration price: Insightful Reach at £1,499 fixed for up to 100 products with redirects, Shopify Agency London from £1,995 for up to 1,000 products and from £3,995 for large catalogues, We Build Stores from £2,490 from Wix, WooCommerce or EKM and from £3,495 from Magento, Webdigita from £11,000 for Magento, and shopifywebdeveloper.co.uk from £28,500 for a move to Plus. We quote after a store review, and most of our migrations take under two weeks.

Who Does Not Publish

49 of the 79 publish no price, including every large Shopify Plus tier agency we checked: Eastside Co, Swanky, Velstar, We Make Websites, Statement, Space48, Underwaterpistol, Blend Commerce, Juno, Visualsoft, Fourmeta, Strawberry, Quickfire, Karmoon and Blubolt. Several publish market ranges in blog posts instead, such as "£1,500 to £6,000 a month" for a retainer (Big Eye Deers), which gives the agency's view of the market but not its price. Seven sites could not be reached on the day.

What Third Party Sources Say

• Clutch lists 553 UK Shopify developers (Clutch UK), with hourly bands from $25 to $199 and minimum projects from $1,000 to $25,000, and no average.
• Agency blogs give ranges rather than prices: £500 to £3,000 a month for maintenance (Charle), £90 to £150 an hour and £5,000 to £12,000 for a startup build (NB eCommerce), and £18,500 for a comparable Magento migration (Webdigita). Treat them as opinion.

How to Read a Shopify Quote

1. Add VAT unless the page says it is included. Two thirds of published prices are silent on it.
2. Ask what "from" buys. A from price usually means a theme based store with a set product count and a short support window; the custom figure on the same page is often two to four times higher.
3. Count the hours in a retainer. £495 for 8 hours, £295 for 5 hours and £650 for 10 hours are much the same rate; a retainer with no set hours is a different kind of deal. Ask what happens to unused hours.
4. Check the term. Some retainers run month to month, some need a first quarter, and some bill a year in advance. Our retainers can be ended at any time and are billed one month in arrears.

How Much Does SEO Marketing Cost in the UK?

SEO marketing in the UK costs from about £185 to almost £3,000 a month, before VAT, among the agencies we found publishing SEO prices on their own websites. We checked these pages on 29 October 2026, separately from the survey above:

• Design for Online publishes four SEO packages from £185 to £850 a month plus VAT, with a two month minimum term.
• Cooper Agency in Telford lists Shopify SEO from £330 a month.
• Whitehat SEO starts its SEO retainer at £1,967 a month and its SEO and content package, which adds link building, at £2,967, both excluding VAT, on 30 day rolling contracts.
• Our own SEO Retainer, covering technical SEO and link building, starts from £1,500 a month plus VAT, and Grow 360, which combines SEO with PPC, social media, email and development, from £2,000 a month.

The price follows the work, so compare what is included rather than the monthly figure: technical fixes, content, link building, how much time you get each month, the minimum term and whether VAT is extra. What is a typical hourly rate for Shopify work in the UK?

Published rates in our survey run from £45 to £100 an hour, with £85 the most common figure, one agency at £75 per half hour and one quoting $180. Third party listings put UK agencies anywhere from $25 to $199 an hour, which shows how wide the market is.

How much does a Shopify migration cost?

Published migration prices start at £1,499 fixed for up to 100 products, £1,995 from a London agency for up to 1,000 products, and £2,490 to £3,495 from a Telford studio depending on the platform you leave. One agency quotes Magento migrations from £11,000 and another Plus migrations from £28,500. Most agencies quote after a store review; so do we.

Are the prices with or without VAT?

Ten of the 30 say their prices exclude VAT, including Why Matters, Charle, Sayu, Uniq Creative, Blue Horizons, BrisTechTonic, Shopify Agency London, The Shopify Guy and Liquify. The rest do not say, so assume VAT is on top unless the page tells you otherwise.

Final Thoughts

A UK Shopify agency that publishes prices will start a build between £650 and £4,000 and a retainer between £85 and £3,000 a month, and most will quote far more for custom work. The agencies that publish nothing are not necessarily dearer, but you will not know until you ask, and the asking is the cost.
